National Spanish Exam Winners

Earlier this spring, some of Mrs. Shay’s 8th grade Spanish students participated in the 2019 National Spanish Examination. The National Spanish Examination is an on-line contest that is given each year by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese. The purpose of the NSE is: •To recognize achievement and to promote proficiency in the study of Spanish. •To stimulate further interest in the teaching and learning of Spanish. •To prepare students for the Spanish AP and SAT II Richard Major and Katelyn Pothakul achieved a gold medal on the exam by scoring above 95%. Emily Ferrara, Theodore Jeliazkov, Alexandra Razhanskiy, Alexander Sabelja, Olivia Ziomber, and Joey Zou achieved a silver medal on the exam by scoring above 85%. Richard Major also scored 3rd in the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Congratulations to all! What a great accomplishment.

8th Grader Wins Poster Contest

Every year, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (A.A.T.S.P.) sponsors a poster contest. This year’s theme was “México: Crisol de culturas, ” (Mexico: Melting pot of cultures). Mrs. Shay entered one of her student’s posters into the contest, and she won! Congratulations to 8th grader Sakura Aoki on this amazing accomplishment. As you can see from her winning poster, she is a very talented artist.

Medical Documentation for Students Entering Grade 7

Please be advised that in September 2017, all public and private school students entering seventh grade in New York State must be vaccinated against meningococcal disease in order to attend school. In addition, they are required by law to submit evidence of having had a current physical exam, including immunizations, done within the past year (dated October 2016 and thereafter). We are requesting a dental certificate as well.

All physical exams and immunization records are due October 1, 2017. You may send them to us at the above address any time before this date.
